An Ocean of Rain is a multimedia chamber opera exploring life after death. The provocative libretto follows the intertwined lives of five women questioning life, love, death and fate.
The action is set in Haiti, where Kiev, a young prostitute, witnesses the murder of a sex tourist. On the run from the authorities and her abusive husband, she returns to the orphanage where she grew up but is refused sanctuary. Meanwhile, three cosmopolitan women make their annual trip to the orphanage and find themselves involved in Kiev’s predicament whilst facing their own troubles.
An Ocean of Rain was composed by Yannis Kyriakides, with libretto by Daniel Danis; set and costume design by John Otto; video by Julia Bardsley; lighting by Zerlina Hughes; direction by Cathie Boyd and live instrumentation from Ensemble MAE.
