Sonic Dreams
Sonic Dreams is an extraordinary and intimate 'sound lab' where audiences relax as they are enveloped by evocative 3D soundscapes. A mysterious enclosure hints at the extraordinary sensory experience in store, when the visitor steps into an environment entirely defined by sound.
“sitting in a velvet darkness, the Sonic Dreams installation has the power to transport you from New York to the jungle, from the mind of a purring cat to an Italian opera house.” The Guardian
For Sonic Dreams Cryptic curated a unique soundtrack, based around four diverse ‘dreams’ including a jungle, the city of Amsterdam and a rock concert. With contributions from Lou Reed, Nick Cave, a swarm of bees and Scottish performers, the revolutionary 3D sound system takes audiences on a fantastical journey to the heart of natural worlds and foreign places.
“a wonderful journey into the world of 3D sound and an experience that shouldn’t be missed” Edinburgh Spotlight
Sonic Dreams is based on a pioneering, super-realistic 3D sound system created by ARUP and Glasgow School of Art. Created for Edinburgh’s International Science Festival in 2010, Sonic Dreams was developed with support from the Scottish Government's Edinburgh Festivals Expo Fund.
“One of the most remarkable experiments in this year’s Science Festival”
Dr Simon Gage, Director of the Edinburgh International Science Festival
