Autumn 2010 sees the arrival of Cryptic’s latest production, Orlando. Cryptic’s staging of Virginia Woolf’s masterpiece-using Darryl Pinckney's lauded adaptation-features a soundtrack by composers AGF and Craig Armstrong and will be performed by actress Madeleine Worrall, with vocal and live electronic accompaniment by AGF and visuals. The production is directed by Cathie Boyd and will premiere this September at the Traverse Theatre, with subsequent performances at Tramway, Glasgow and the Espoo City Theatre, Finland.
Taking place over hundreds of years, Orlando opens with the hero as a young man in Elizabethan England, and follows his transformations of fortune, love and even gender in her voracious and multi-faceted quest for ‘life and a lover’. A sensuous epic of self-discovery, the novel has also been described as ‘the longest and most charming love letter in literature’, and relishes an era in literature where opulence, decadence and hedonism were savoured.
AGF will preview her work on Orlando at the brilliant Inspace in Edinburgh on 23rd June. Check out our news page for more details about this exclusive preview...
