Exploring the bond between humans and insects, Telling the Bees combines enchanting visual theatre with live music to playfully question our behaviour towards such a significant and increasingly endangered species. Inspired by the curious conception of honeybees as messengers to the spirit realm and the very real reliance we have on them, Maria Braender and her ensemble fuse sensuous live music, in song and on harp, with ritualistic movement, projection and light to exquisite effect. “Epic and stunning,” (The Herald), this is a powerful and poetic response to both historical beliefs and current-day climate change.
