Intended as an ode to the city and its most distinctive and immediately recognisable transport system, ‘The Clockwork Orange’, Mark Vernon’s A Loop Within A Loop is an evocative, radiophonic sound journey around the Glasgow Subway. Playfully mixing old and new media in an exploration of circularity, the work is performed on two concentric tape loops that encircle the artist. Manipulated live and sampled in real time, tape recorded voices and field recordings loop and repeat, come and go, ebb and flow to recall this rattling, high speed, ear-splitting journey into the darkness.
