Waxen Figures is a Cryptic Commission from sound artist Samm Anga dealing with the theme of re-connection through exploration of the disconnect between older indigenous practices and modern behaviour. The work investigates the supernatural elements of Scottish folklore, incorporating concepts of separation and regeneration, and utilising materials such as clay and wax with the human body in motion.

Encompassing a range of art forms including music, visual art, and dance, Waxen Figures enlists a unique, forward thinking, and digitally focused style of storytelling. The live performance will feature projection mapping, as well as augmented reality of Pictish carvings around the performance space.

Samm Anga is graduate from the London College of Communication MA Sound Arts programme. His work explores sonic flirtations with mythology and storytelling, re-contextualising themes of identity and the Self within audiovisual displays. Based in Aberdeen, he has been expanding his musical background and honing his specialism in all things sound related over recent years.

A Cryptic Commission developed at Cove Park and Art House Jersey.
