Cryptic, in association with Night School Records, presents multi-instrumentalist and singer, Ela Orleans, in an intimate audio-visual staging of her new album, Movies for Ears – a richly textured retrospective of her songs spanning a decade of recordings.

Wavering between memory and fantasy, Orleans scratchily invokes half-remembered exotica, the flickering shadows of europhile cinema screens and a delicately woven world of longing, loneliness and searching for love.

An artist with an uncanny ability to evoke emotions and summon ghosts of memory in her listeners, Orleans’ distinctive signature sound mixes a childhood studying formal music with cut-up techniques, sampling, sound-art and experimentation to both melancholic and uplifting effect.

“One of the most intriguing, diligent talents to have emerged over the last few years, with a restless appetite for creating immersive audio-visual experiences, or “movies for ears” as she succinctly terms her work.” The Scotsman
