Affairs of the Current is a live audiovisual performance by Glasgow-based artist Laurie O’Dowd.

Blending generative technology and experimentation, he creates an interactive dialogue with his audience. O’Dowd integrates visual and sound samples derived from field recordings and installations that capture the dynamic movement of water. Inspired to develop a language that facilitates the connection between the audio and visual, he explores how these distinct elements can work together to extend each other’s meaning. His performance immerses audiences in an organic, ever-shifting interplay of sight and sound, exploring the fluid relationship between perception, nature and technology.

Laurie O’Dowd is a Glasgow-based artist whose practice explores the dynamic relationship between sound and image. A 2023 graduate of Gray’s School of Art with a BA (Hons) in Painting, O’Dowd’s final year of study was deeply informed by a growing interest in audiovisual interplay, an interest that has since become central to his artistic language.

Following his return to Glasgow after graduation, his work has evolved through ongoing collaborations with musicians and sound artists. These exchanges have played a key role in shaping his distinctive approach to audiovisual composition. Today, sound is an inextricable component of O’Dowd’s practice, as he continues to experiment with the ways sonic and visual elements can extend and transform one another.
