Dopey Monkey – a duo of Scottish composers and musicians: Martin Lee Thomson (euphonium) and Danielle Price (tuba) – will be a guest at the October Strefa Innych Brzmień.
As an artistic band with ambition, Dopey Monkey goes beyond the traditional boundaries associated with their instruments. Since its formation in 2015, they have tirelessly explored not only their own possibilities, but also created projects based on various media and performance forms. The Scots’ performances, by definition, are non-standard and emphasize the inquisitive dynamics of this duo’s artistic exploration.
Previous releases and projects by Dopey Monkey have taken the form of genre collages, inspired by curiosity, playful collaboration, storytelling and art, transferring a DIY approach to their compositional process. Musically, the band oscillates between funk, jazz and experimental music, and folk and classical music. The duo’s performances are always an inspiring space for artistic and sonic exploration and a journey they take listeners on.
This performance is associated with Dopey Monkey’s residency at the Workshops of Culture in Lublin, in partnership with Sonica Glasgow.
Supported by British Council’s UK/Poland Season 25.
